Jonathan Tamayo took up the game of poker during college while studying Hospitality Management at Cornell University. Unlike many younger poker pros, Jonathan actually finished his degree but was also steadily improving his game. Soon after graduation, Jonathan decided to turn pro after making the final table of the Sunday Million on PokerStars and earning $62,000 in prize money.

Jonathan Tamayo's Biography

Jonathan Tamayo’s decision would prove wildly profitable as he soon started racking up huge scores online. So far, he has over $1 Million in online tournament earnings, including a pair of third place finished in FTOPS events.

Jonathan has not only been successful in online poker but also has over $1.14 Million in live tournament earnings. Most of Jonathan’s early live scores centered around the World Series of Poker. In 2007, he just missed the final table of the $3k Limit Hold’em Event where he finished in 10th place.

A year later, he cashed four times at the 2008 WSOP and finished runner-up in the $1,500 Limit/NL Hold’em Event. In 2009, Jonathan became a household name after finishing 21st in the 2009 WSOP Main Event. Not only did he get $352,000 in prize money, but also much needed national exposure.

Jonathan has also had success on the WSOP Circuit. In 2012, Jonathan took down his first WSOP-C ring after winning a $355 NL event at the New Orleans circuit stop. In 2013, he took down his second ring and first major title when he won the WSOP-C Palm Beach Main Event. The win also gave him $206,000 in prize money.

After winning his second circuit ring, Jonathan cashed three times in the 2013 World Series of Poker, including his third career Main Event cash.

Jonathan is not exclusively a Texas Hold’em player but is competent in most forms of poker. His well-rounded approach to the game has helped him to amass over $2.1 Million in poker earnings and he brings his wealth of experience to the tables at Ivey Poker.
